Goulding tops chart more than a year after album release

Written by on 5th January 2014

Ellie Goulding’s second album has reached the top of the UK chart for the first time, more than a year after it was released.

Halcyon, which came out in October 2012, features five top 40 singles, including her debut number one Burn.

US rapper Pitbull scored the first number one single of the year with Timber, featuring Kesha. She revealed this week that she had entered a rehab facility for an eating disorder. The 26-year-old said she wanted to “learn to love myself again, exactly as I am”.

The Official Charts Company said Timber has sold surprisingly well in a week that is traditionally slow, shifting 139,000 copies.

Pharrell William’s Happy slipped one place to number two, while Avicii’s Hey Brother and Jason Derulo’s Trumpets stayed at three and four.

Goulding’s Children in Need single How Long Will I Love You climbed to number five.

Last week’s number one album, Robbie Williams’s Swings Both Ways, fell to number four, while Gary Barlow’s Since I Saw You Last remained at two, followed by Beyonce’s eponymous album at three.

The top five was completed by John Newman’s Tribute, which rose from number 11.
