Ella Henderson tops UK album chart with Chapter One

Written by on 26th October 2014

Former X Factor finalist Ella Henderson has called topping the UK album chart with her debut release Chapter One “a moment in time I will never forget”.

“Being number one with my first album is where a dream has met reality.”

The 18-year-old singer from Grimsby sold about 16,000 copies more of her record this week than its nearest rival, Ed Sheeran’s X.

Henderson came sixth in the 2012 series of The X Factor and went on to land a record deal with Simon Cowell’s Syco label.

This week’s chart also sees Irish band U2 notch up their 16th Top 10 record with their album Songs of Innocence.

The album was given away for free via iTunes in September and entered the chart on Sunday following its physical release this week.

Singer Bono has since expressed remorse for automatically adding the record to iTunes users’ libraries, attributing the move to a “drop of megalomania [and] a touch of generosity”.

US singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor remains at number one in the singles chart with her debut track All About That Bass.

Taylor Swift’s Shake It Off is at number two, ahead of One Direction’s Steal My Girl – a new entry at number three.
